Happy holidays to you and your loved ones

OK, ladies. Let’s think new year…new you. That’s the plan.

With all the cold weather, the late-night holiday parties and the over indulgence of the season, your skin may need some extra attention. So, let’s ring in the new season by freshening up your makeup drawer and brightening your complexion.

Here’s what we suggest:

• Use a gentle facial scrub with micro beads once a week to remove extra dead skin cells, which make your complexion look dull and flakey. Follow up with a moisturizer with a SPF of 15, even though it’s winter.
• For tired eyes, take two cotton makeup-removal pads and soak them in iced tea. Lie down and place these over your eyes for 15 minutes. In a short time, you will feel refreshed, and any puffiness around the eyes will be reduced.
• To do a quick fix on chapped lips, take a toothbrush and lightly exfoliate them before bedtime. Then coat them with petroleum jelly to seal in moisture. When you head out the next day, make sure you have applied lip balm to protect your lips from the elements and reapply throughout the day. If you have the habit of licking your lips, it’s one to break, because chapped lips aren’t particularly kissable. You wouldn’t want that, now would you?

Are you thinking of your New Year’s resolutions yet? Is “Stop being late!” at the top of your list? If it is, we have some suggestions to help you get out the door on time. Here is the five-minutes-to-flawless makeup routine:

1. A yellow-based foundation is the best color for most women. Start with it. To cover dark under-eye circles, apply a concealer and then set it with powder.

2. Apply a neutral-colored eye shadow lightly on the eyelids. Add brown or soft black eyeliner, concentrating on the outer corners of the eyes. Use a brush and brown eyebrow powder to fill in the brows, and then blend it to soften the color.

3. Finally, use two coats of your favorite mascara. Apply a neutral rose blush to the cheeks, and sweep on a light shade of lip gloss. Bam! You are good to go.

Last, but not least, let’s put some order back into our chaotic lives by cleaning out our makeup drawer, throwing away the old stuff and replacing it with new fresh color. Some of those expiration dates might be a tad scary if you care to take a closer look.

Keep in mind that the life span of mascara is about three months. Foundations and lipsticks are good for a year, and eye shadows and powders last around two years. Old pencil eyeliner and lip liner should be thrown out if they are dried up, but if the consistency is still good, just resharpen them to a fresh point. Don’t forget to clean makeup brushes regularly to avoid spreading bacteria. There are some nasty ones out there, so be diligent.

The end result? A clean and tidy drawer ready to be filled with new makeup. If you don’t know where to start, email your questions to us or stop by our salon in the Chicago area and check out our new makeup line.
