My hair color is washing me out. What should I do?
Your hair color may be too ashy, which means it has a cool tone to it. Usually those with fair skin and green or blue eyes fall into this “cool” category. If you have olive, brown or golden tones to your skin, you probably fall into the “warm” family, which means you should have a warm color to your hair. Add some golden hues such as caramel or bronze to your hair and that should escort you back into the warm tones that are most flattering to your skin. If you just don’t know which camp you fall in, it is best to check with a hair care professional.
Will going blonder make me look younger?
That depends. You may not necessarily need to go lighter, but you may need to soften the color. Sometime adding a few highlights or lowlights is the boost you need to shave off a few years.
Why don’t my highlights blend away my grays?
If the old tricks aren’t working anymore, consider adding a single process color to your base before you highlight. This will take care of the gray and then give you the contrast that you desire.
My natural dark hair looks dull. What can I do to bring back the shine?
We would recommend that you change your shampoo to a gentler one such as L’Oreal’s Vitamino line. Use the line’s conditioner, too. That might adjust the problem, but if that doesn’t give you the results you want, ask your colorist to add a “deposit-only” glaze to match your natural color. This will give you the shine you are looking for, and it won’t leave a color line along the hair shaft when your tresses grow out.
How often should I wash my hair?
Long, thick and curly hair should be washed only two or three times a week at the most. By leaving your hair unwashed for a day or two, your scalp’s natural oils can work their way up the hair shafts and condition them in the process. When you do wash your hair, it is very important to use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. We recommend L’Oreal’s Absolute Repair Shampoo and Conditioner.
